Santa Claus day is December 6th

St. Nicholas died on December sixth. He was a man who gave his entire inheritance helping the poor.  I think Santa Claus day should be on December sixth as not to confuse children and not to be mixed up with the Christian observation of Christ’s birthday.

My husband started this tradition in my family. He was from Switzerland and all of us found it fun to make the sweet bread called Grittibanz and have hot cocoa on December sixth. This is the day for St. Nicholas.  A benevolent person who gave to the poor.

Santa Claus day is on the date of St. Nicholas death. Thus the man in the red suit.  Soon our family will be making the sweet bread and everyone will make not just the little man with the raison eyes but anything they can create.  In my family the bread over the years was in the shape of candy canes, little braided breads, pies and animals of all kinds.

At supper we will have homemade hot cocoa and cheese and the sweet bread. I will post pictures of our event. Who knows maybe count candy corn will show up.
